The Syrian-American clinic has announced as
part of its mandate to support Qatari healthcare, that it will be making a
concentrated effort to fight the social and physical issues surround obesity.
Qatar has seen a slow increase in its
obesity index with the latest World Health Organisation statistics showing that
some 73% of men and 70% of women are overweight. The most concerning statistics
are those regarding Qatar’s children, with a poll in 2006 suggesting that 8% of
all children were in fact obese.
Commenting on these statistics was CEO and
founder of the Syrian-American clinic, Mohamed Moataz AlKhayat. “We recognise
the need for both education and awareness when it comes to having a proper diet
and exercise, however in some cases, a specialist is required to help people
rehabilitate themselves into a healthy lifestyle. Our clinic will be making a
concentrated effort to assist and support all those who suffer from obesity,
and ensure a healthier Qatari population for the future. As the nation which is
hosting the FIFA 2022 World Cup, it is important for the image of the country,
that healthcare is illustrated as a serious priority.”
