Khayyat Contracting & Trading (KCT) has set a clear timeline for its attainment of third-part certification, a move that will allow the company to broaden the scope of its bidding to also encompass large public projects as part of the Q2022 build-up.

Mohamed Moataz AlKhayat, CEO of Khayyat Contracting & Trading (KCT), notes: “Presently the company is not bidding – we don’t have third-party certification – but if we get certification we will be able to tender for a wider variety of jobs, as our company is also focusing on the 2022 FIFA World Cup.”

According to estimates the Qatari Government has a planned spend of $200bn on competitively tendered public works, of which an approximate $140-$145bn will be spent on infrastructure.

Adnan Qamar, SHEQ manager at Khayyat Contracting & Trading (KCT), says: “Right now we are not going for infrastructure jobs, but with certification these bids will also be within our scope.”

“For this we are focusing on-site on-the-job training for our workforce on all quality and HSE procedures in order to achieve the ISO standards necessary for third-party accreditation.”

Outlining the steps in place, Qamar notes the signing off of existent company procedures followed by the proper training on-site and a management reviewed internal audit on progress.

Qamar sums: “Hopefully we will be going for the first stage certification audit by September and achieve that accreditation in October, which will qualify us to undergo the second stage certification audit in January 2014 and so receive the full accreditation by February.”

Alongside these steps complete KCT is also looking to receive performance evaluations from of all its subcontractors and suppliers – documents which the contractor is duly collecting as we speak.
