Doha-based Palma Hospitality Group is
aiming to develop its award-winning Souq Waqif restaurant, Damasca, into a
franchised brand.
A 500-cover F&B outlet, Damasca is an
authentic Syrian cuisine restaurant which expressly reflects the culture,
traditions and food from not one but all of the different regions in Syria.
Palma Hospitality Group’s executive manager
Charbel Mhanna reveals: “We are hoping to develop this brand and put it into
franchising in the near future, within the country and abroad.”
Commenting on the atmosphere of the restaurant,
where the waiters come dressed in traditional Syrian clothing, accompanied by
music from the region, Mhanna highlights: “From the moment the food is served
and until you leave you will feel the streets of Syria, the service and the
authentic food.”
Mohamed Moataz AlKhayat,
Group MD, notes: We don’t want to serve what is common, and so the entrance is
full with activities from the rural streets of Syria. We want the brand that we
develop to be different - this is one of the main targets of Palma.”
While confident about the brand’s
popularity and success, Mhanna also points to online reviews and websites such
as Trip Advisor that very publically reflect the popularity of the restaurant.
Due to the restaurant’s location in Souq Waqif,
the restaurant is a big attraction for both the tourists and expats that visit
the souq, which is one of the oldest in Doha and reflects the city’s culture.
Similarly, Qatari nationals who “wish to
eat good Syrian food” are also the outlet’s target customers and are just as
likely to be drawn. Group MD, Moutaz Khayyat,
concludes: “Damasca is a unique product – a winning destination – and one of
the best Syrian restaurants in town.”
